After reading information about the history of some random playground in the Netherlands it stood out to me that:

- Most of them were created shortly after the war
- Some of them stared pretty primitive, with some sand, tires and an old car and they evolved over time
- The playgrounds were popular from the start, it was a place for children to be free and fully themselves
- Most playgrounds had one adult present present to keep an eye on the children, that doesn't happen nowadays
- Back then parents were less present at the playground than now

After some contact with the municipality about playgrounds in Rotterdam they send me a link with more information. I found a "praatplaat" about nutrition and health. It says that playing outside, at a playground is good for you. The lady on the phone also told me there is a difference between "speeltuinen" and "speelplaatsen", that they're working on more sustainable playgrounds and that they're not placing "wipkippen" anymore because they weren't working out so well.
